Yes it's about vampires but I haven't got to that part. I'll try to add more when I can. I'm very busy this summer but I'll try my best! This originally started as hw but my friend suggested me 2 make it a story so I did and here I am so far. Good Luck with ur fanfiction.By the way these vampires are different from Stephenie Meyer's so it'll be interesting I'm already planning whats going to happen just haven't wrote it down yet(obviously). These names r just temporary! (There r probably some mistakes n grammar)
Mystery Guy
Once again I walked by that house. Something was different this time. The light was on. I swear they were on but just like that they were off again. It was really creepy. No one had lived there as long as I’ve been alive. And the trees, they were filled with Spanish moss, which made the whole yard darker than usual. The house looked like it was staring me down telling me to run. So I did what it said. I ran as fast as I could. The trees around me were blurring together.
Once I got to my house, I was gasping for air, and shivering with fear. I told my sister all about it. She didn’t believe me.
“But you have to. What I saw was not normal. It was like there was someone in there staring at me. Please come check it out.”
“Yeah, Yeah Valerie. You’ll get over it.” she said, not caring a bit what I’d said.
“Fine Rose, be a chicken then. I’ll just get Alec and Travis to come with me.”
Finally I convinced her to go. We ran off to get Alec and Travis. By now I was becoming dizzy. Thoughts ran through my head at a million miles an hour. What should we do when we get there? Is someone really in there? What if there is someone?
No one believed me, STILL, until we got there. It was beginning to rain. Then it poured, harder and harder as the rain began to flourish the ground, lightning struck the house. I could have sworn that the lights went on for about half a second. Now it looked haunted. And the atmosphere became so eerie; you might think you were in a grave yard. I was shivering with fear or, it might have been the cold rain on my head. I wouldn’t be able to tell if my life depended on it.
“Let’s check it out.” Alec said with such courage you would think he was running off into war. He’s always trying to show off.
“I’ll go.” Travis said. He always does what Alec says. Then Rose agreed to go too; all but me. I thought we should tell someone but never check it out ourselves.
“Valerie come help.” Rose screamed. She interrupted my thinking. Finally I woke from my trance, and took in a deep breath.
“NO” with my whole body numb with horror, that was all I could manage. Then I realized I was being pushed into the backyard. But out of the corner of my eye I could see everyone jerking on the back door. Then it hit me. ALL of them were working on the door. Something or Someone was pushing me in there. I was way too distracted to notice that it had stopped raining completely but it was still pouring in the front. I suddenly fell. But not because of my own body collapsing, but, something just like the force that was pushing me in pushed me down. But it was using full force this time and I sunk about an inch into the rock hard ground.
Something didn’t like me, because nothing was happening to the others. That was just plain creepy. I tried to get a hold of my self and got up. They had just opened the door. Then a rush of cold air ran over me not even moving the grass beneath me. Apparently it had gone right around Alec, Travis, and Rose.
“Are you coming?” Alec said. He probably knew the answer, but was just trying to be polite. Whatever reason he was asking me I didn’t care. I had more on my mind.
“No thank you.” I said trying to be polite back. I began to realize what he was saying. He was going in the house. “Wait. Don’t go in the house.” I yelled. But it was too late. They were all inside and I was left all alone.
The dizziness started to come back now. The numbness was overwhelming my entire body. What am I going to do? Why did they go inside? Are they going to be okay?
But I came distracted by the screams of bloody murder coming from inside the house. I ran like a cheetah, but faster as if my fear fueled me, to the door. But where I thought would be my friends lying down in a pool of blood. Were my friends laughing there heads off. I felt like ripping their heads off because they scared me for no reason.
This room looked like the living room. The furniture was arranged like one of those show rooms. You would think an abanded house would have chairs covered in dust. But it was the exact opposite of that. Everything was just like your regular clean freak’s house. Nothing had one little spec of dust.
But that’s when I noticed the light in the garage was on.
“What’s up with the light?” I said sounding a little panicked.
“Who cares” Travis said. “Are you scarred?
“Well yeah.” I was ready to punch him now.
Then just like lightning, something flashed through the door of the garage and up the stairs.
“Did you see that”, I said worried. They all shook their heads. This made me worried, either I was crazy or there was something. And it was trying to get my attention. Questions roared through my
head. What is it? What does it want? Why am I the only one that is noticing this? My sister was shaking me. I shook my head mechanically three times.
“What”, I said confused.
“It’s time to go home”, Rose said annoyed.
I walked home quietly. While they were talking about today probably making fun of me; I wasn’t paying enough attention to tell. When we got home, I felt confused, a little dizzy (which was starting to wear off), and tired. So I said goodnight and went to bed. At least school was tomorrow and I won’t have to be so close to that creepy house. I soon began to drift into unconsciousness. Vivid dreams flooded my head. The one that caught me had a house just like the one down the street. And it was exactly the same. Travis, Alec, and Rose went in the house; Leaving me all alone. Next I heard screams and I ran to the door as fast as I could but nothing was there. Everything turned bright like a light.
I finally realized what had happened; I woke up. My sister was shaking me back and forth screaming for me to wake up. Apparently I forgot to set my alarm clock being as tired as I was last night I wouldn’t doubt it. I finally got up; kicking the covers off of my bed. I got dressed, ate breakfast and headed off to high school.
When I got there it was like a normal day. I went to first period like usual, but as I scanned the classroom, I spotted something different. It was a guy, extremely HOT, he must be a new student. He had blonde hair he looked around 6’’1’, perfect face, and light blue eyes. Something about him wasn’t right. He wasn’t paying any attention to all the girls drooling over his entire perfect ness; he was only looking at the wall. I thought for a second… Should I introduce myself? The answer that I came up with was no because if I did the only thing that would happen is that I embarrass myself like every time I like a guy I just start babbling.
Maybe at lunch, class is going to start soon and school is first on my priority. Or that’s what I thought. The whole class I was in another world. Why is he not paying any attention to any of the girls? Most guys would take advantage of the moment, and ask one of the girls out, but he didn’t. Maybe he comes from some place different than here and they don’t go on dates, or something. Why isn’t he hanging out with the guys? The guys are probably being shy, or they could be mad that he’s taking all the girls.
I think maybe he should get a good friend, one that wouldn’t ditch him at the mall, or make fun of him after two months. One name came to mind…Andrew. He’s the best guy friend I’ve ever had; he makes me laugh when I am sad, and once he stood up to all of the popular kids at school just for me; overall he’s the best. Maybe I should get Andrew to talk to him. Ding! Ding! The bell finally rang. I guess I’ll get the homework from Maggie. I took another quick glance around the room and mystery guy was gone. Where did he go? I finally found Maggie in the busy hallway, full of gossip about the new guy.
“Did you see him?” She said excited.
“Yeah he is totally GORGEUS!” I said. I began to think of the way he looked which reminded me I needed homework.
“I think so too!” She said probably thinking about him; like I did.
“Hey I was kind of in another world today in class can I have the homework?” I admitted.
“Sure…but I’ve never seen you so distracted by a guy you must really like him.” She said slyly. I haven’t had much past experience with crushes or boyfriends, so she was probably trying to pry the secret out of me. She knew me to well I had to tell her.
“Ok I do but I don’t know how to talk to him. Remember last time I had a crush.” I said
“Oh that time… that was funny how you cried, for three hours.” She mocked.
“Hey you promised not to tell anyone.”
“I didn’t.”
Second, Third and Forth period were sort of boring. Except for the fact everyone was talking about him. Even the teacher was. This was so weird. Heck I didn’t even know his name. I’ll find out at lunch, for sure!
But to bad I didn’t have him in any more classes today except one which was with the evil teacher Mrs. Cooper. She’ll eat you up and throw you in principle’s office. I hate her and every time she gives us homework it takes us a minimum of three hours to finish; it’s even hard for all of the nerds.
Finally, it’s the best time of the day, lunchtime. The bad thing is I’ll probably be forced to talk to him and babble my head off, and he’ll never want to see me again, though it will probably be worse because I’ve never liked a guy this much. But who cares I’m pretty much on the bottom of the food chain just above the nerds, geeks, and dorks; what I am a nobody. Which is just below popular, I’m kind of in the middle but I can’t be taken out because the balance would be thrown off. Once I got to the lunchroom Maggie and Andrew ran up to me. I have a feeling she told Andrew by there faces.
“He is sitting over there, go talk to him” Maggie said pointing at him. My heart stopped once I saw him but then started to race as I became nervous. Andrew seemed to notice.
“Maybe she should get her lunch first before the line grows.” Andrew said, saving me. I mouthed thank you when Maggie wasn’t looking. I got my lunch and sat down at our table we only sat two tables away from him. I glanced over at him. I turned my head immediately and blushed when he looked back at me.
“He’s looking at you”, Maggie said happy for me.
“Shut up he can probably hear you he’s only two tables down not that I noticed”, I whispered to her.
“Sure…go talk to him I’ll be with you”, she said trying to encourage me.
“Ok but first tell me his name”, I said giving up. I knew she wouldn’t let this go, I couldn’t get out of it, and Andrew couldn’t help me. I was stuck in quick sand and the only way to get out is by facing it. I was going to talk to him if I wanted to or not. Maybe it wouldn’t be so hard.
“Easy Jake “, Maggie pulled me toward his direction; I guess I’ll find out sooner than I thought.
“Hey Jake this is Valerie; she has first period with you”, she said nudging me to talk.
“Hi” I said it was the only word that came out. I froze; no words would come out of my mouth. It’s like I had a frog in my throat, I never knew how it felt till now, and it felt like something crawling up my throat and fall down when it’s almost to the top. I only looked into his eyes, and what I saw was swirls of blue so peaceful and so dangerous that if one tint of blue mixes with the others the balance would be thrown off. But it never did.
“We better get going; don’t want to be late”, Maggie said jerking me out of the trace.
“Yeah so I guess…see you around”, I said. Then Maggie pulled me as fast as she could to our table.
“What were you thinking freezing up like that”, Maggie said.
“I don’t know what happened” I admitted. Then the rest of the way to trig that’s all she talked about, I didn’t pay attention, all I did was say oh at the right time. Luckily she has science next so I could have some time to think. Think again, as I began to scan the classroom I saw the new kid. And he was talking to the teacher about seating probably. That’s when I realized that the only empty seat left in class was the one beside me, yikes. I looked over to see where he was and he was flawlessly walking toward me. How could I focus in class if the hottest guy in school is sitting next to me? Oh no he was here. I naturally fixed my hair before he sat down.
“Hi”, I managed.
“Hey Valerie I met you at lunch right?” He said politely back.
“Yeah”, I said keeping my voice calm. It was much easier to talk to him when I’m not forced to. The teacher started taking role.
“If you need any help I might be able to help”, I whispered.
“Ok but if you need any help I’m here”, he challenged still being polite. My bangs started to get in my face so I flipped my hair. Then at that instant he looked away and didn’t say anymore the rest of class. I couldn’t tell what his expression was but I was pretty sure it looked between frustrated and mad. Questions rolled through my mind. Why is he acting that way? Weren’t we just having a nice conversation? Did I do something wrong?
I need to focus on class. I began to pretend he wasn’t here, which was impossible, but it did help. Finally the bell rang within two seconds Jake was gone. I ran out of the classroom and slid to a stop, and then I saw him walking to perfectly through every crack between the crowded people when it appeared. So I ran to catch up with him, I didn’t get close enough to talk to him but close enough to see him in the parking lot. He was getting in fancy black Mercedes with tinted windows. After he got in his car I ran to get in mine. It was a 1990 ford bronco; it was all I could afford working at McDonalds. I put my key in the ignition and was on my way to my house. When I got to my street ready to turn I took a quick glance into my rear view mirror and saw a black Mercedes; I could feel his eyes on me even though I couldn’t see them. I immediately turned then he did right after me. Why is he following me? I turned into the concrete driveway of my house then looked behind me. He wasn’t there. I quickly scanned the street which we both were on only just five seconds ago. I finally found his car and it was parked behind a moving truck down the street at the creepy house.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Duet
I ran in the house as fast as I could.
“Hey mom, is someone moving in down the street”, I said between gasping for air.
“Yeah, and can you take this casserole to them”, She said handing me the casserole.
“Sure”, I said weakly and walked out the door, set the casserole carefully in my car, and drove down the street. I began to think as I was getting into my car. What am I going to do? He’s moving in down the street. I don’t even know if he likes me as a friend. There are only three things I can do. First, have my sister do it. Second, “fall” and drop the casserole. Third, face it because I’m going to have to talk to him sometime. Oh no I’m here. Just try to focus on not tripping on the way to the door. Now ring the door bell. The door was made of oak wood they must have polished it since I’ve been here. Someone opened the door.
“Hi Jake is not here right now”, said what looks like his mom.
“Oh well my mom made this casserole to welcome you”, I said as the nervousness flowed out of me like it’s the water in a river and leaving through the water fall.
“Why don’t you come inside and set it on the table” she said motioning me to come inside.
“Ok” I said focusing on not dropping it as I walked into the kitchen. It looked the same as the last time I was here. I’m definitely not going to tell her about my day yesterday.
“Thank you so much and can you pass that on to your mom for me. And I’ll make sure to tell Jake you were here”.
“Sure… Well I better get going I have a lot of homework waiting for me at home”.
“Ok, I hope to see you again,” she said to me standing by the oak door as I got in my car.
“See ya,” I said as I was leaving relieved to see her smiling back. I’m glad she liked me. But that’s when I started to wonder where Jake was considering his car was still parked in the driveway. I wonder where he went in the five minutes it took me to go home, get the casserole, and drive back here. There’s something different about Jake. But somehow I think I like it.
Once I got home I did my homework, ate dinner than got ready for bed. I put on my silky pink pajamas with cute little rubber ducks on them. (I know I’m a complete dork). After I got my diary out and began to write about obviously Jake, I wrote about how he lived on my street, and I wrote about how the house looked exactly the same from when I had (well not really) broke into the house(when you put it into words it sounded really bad). Once I finished I locked my diary and put it in my pillow case ( I don’t use that pillow because it’s hard and lumpy I use the other one). And got Tangelo (my bearded dragon I named when I was five) out of her cage. She the best person, wait animal to talk to. She never tells a secret that’s why I love her some much and she’s a great listener too.
Someone is turning the door knob to my room. The fear I thought that had gone away after we had left the creepy house down the street just started to creep its way up my spine as the door opened. I felt like everything was in slow motion. The door completely opened up and I guess I was overreacting a little too much.
“Put Tangelo back in her cage and turn off the lights while you’re at it. It’s late you need to go to bed, and are you okay”, my mom said looking at my expression (who knows what it is).
“Yeah I’m fine,” I said as I put Tangelo away and my mom turned off the light.
“Goodnight,” I whispered.
“Goodnight,” my mom whispered back as I drifted of into a dream which was the weirdest one I’ve ever had in my life. It started out as the same one as the last one where we broke into the house only Jake was the one pushing me into the yard and then into the ground but it got weirder once we got into the house he was there sitting on the couch laughing and telling me to come and sit with him. But as I walked over to sit by him and everyone else disappeared at a blink of an eye. I tried to ask Jake what was happening but he just kept telling me to sit down, so I did. But then he took my hand and smelled it, and kissed it a second after. He began to look into my eyes as I drifted into a trance. The blue swirls reminded me of the ocean, beautiful and unpredictable. He started to talk but I was too distracted to hear it all but he repeated it to me about a zillion times. Then he looked angry like today at school but worse. He also looked frustrated like he couldn’t decide what to do. But then he leaned into me for what I interoperated as kissing me so I leaned in too. But then I woke up (at the best part).
“Dang it”, I said to myself as I got out of bed. At least I’ll see Jake at school today. I got dressed in my cutest t-shirt. It was a blue tank top with sparkles at the top. I even straightened my hair (I don’t usually do that even for a guy). I stepped into my car and drove off to school. When I arrived he was there but looked slightly different and I couldn’t put my finger on it. After all that time staring at him, it was kind of sad because I couldn’t figure it out. He still looked incredibly perfect but had a light blue Hollister top, with kaki cargo pants instead of the fancy leather jacket, rumored to be from Italy. Was that was part of the reason everyone was staring at him? Maybe the change in clothes was it? As Biology class ended I began to wonder which elective he had. Would it be mine, no hardly many guys took vocal and the ones that did were beyond weird. He may be different but definitely not weird. So I’d have to wait till trig to ask him what was up since I was sitting across the room from him.
As the bell rang I picked up my books and headed to my locker. I was getting my books out of my locker , attempting not to drop them and embarrass myself like every other day, out of the corner of my eye I saw Jake walking out of the classroom. His stunning features could blind you, and they did because I dropped my books. I hate when I get so distracted and I was trying so hard not to. Great, he saw me and now he’s coming over to help me. I didn’t want help, its not like I’m a helpless orphan, I can fend for myself. As I scrambled to pick up my books, it only made me more obvious. I fell smack on my butt and my leg twisted under me as I fell. And I didn’t even feel the pain. I just watched as Jake walked over like in a movie when they over dramatize it and put wind blowing in their hair, it looked as it was happening as he walked over to me.
“Are you okay that looked like a hard fall,” he said as leaned down to look at me. Oh no here comes the pain.
“Um…yeah I guess.” The pain hit harder. “It hurts a little,” I said clenching my teeth.
“Let’s get you to the clinic” He said with care as he studied me. “Can you walk”?
“I guess so”, I said as I stood up, but I couldn’t completely hold my weight. Once I took my first step I became wobbly and would have fallen if it wasn’t for Jake, and his quick reflexes. He helped me steady myself. “On second thought I don’t think I can.” I said gripping his arm for balance; he probably thought I was a stupid little girl that couldn’t walk straight. He was probably helping me in the hallway for his reputation.
“We definitely need to get you to the clinic.” He said as he put his arm around my waist for support, and with the other he picked up my books in one swift motion. When his arm was around me I felt perfect like we were meant for each other. I felt like there was electricity between us but not the awkward kind that is with your first crush where you just stand around smiling to each other. It was the kind that you feel when you truly know the person and you feel comfortable around each other. It felt like we were one.
As we waited in the office that connected to the clinic, I began to wonder why he just didn’t leave me. He helped me sit down in the office chair. Than he moved my books to his other hand while he opened the door to the school nurses headquarters. I felt all the stares from the secretaries with their cold beady eyes. I didn’t really care about them; they needed to mind their own business. Jake came back out with the school nurse and she looked me over, probably not surprised to see me at her clinic again.
“What happened,” the nurse said in her sweet comforting voice. “Are you okay Valerie?” Sadly the nurse knew me by name. I tended to get in trouble a lot. Not like I’m bad or anything but the popular girls always push me around and I usually end up getting in a scrape causing some injury. They never got into trouble but that was how high school worked.
“I fell in the hallway and Jake came to help me,” I said. Was I Ok? I was in pain but Jake seemed to make everything all right. Nurse Joanna sat me down on the cot and I clenched my teeth to hold in the pain. Jake answered for me as he leaned on the wall.
“From what I’ve observed she’s hurting and she can’t walk straight,” he said smiling at me in a caring way. Come to think of it I felt exactly the same way he’d described. “You can go to class now” Joanna said glancing at Jake.
“She’ll need an escort back to class when you’re done taking care of her”, he said smoothly. She gave up and ignored him then, carried on with her work.
“I’ll give you some Tylenol and you’ll feel better and once the pain goes you’ll be able to walk. I promise you,” she promised as she searched through the medicine cabinet door. I took the medicine she gave me and then after her reassurance that my foot wasn’t sprained she sent us back to class.
“So the nurse knows you by name,” Jake said holding the door for me.
“Yeah, well as you probably noticed I’m not the most popular girl around here. Sometimes the other girls go too far and make me fall or hurt myself,” I revealed.
“And you don’t tell anyone,” he said intrigued.
“I have, apparently only my friends and the nurse believe me,” I said trying to sound cool. I pointed to where our destination was.
“That’s unfair,” he said appalled. “But its high school,that’s all one could expect.”
“Yeah well I guess I’ll see you at trig”. I was kind of awkward now.
“Yeah well I better get going. I hope you feel better,” he said as caring as ever. Then he turned and went the opposite way. And I knew this school by heart not one elective class was in that direction.
“Where are you going,” I said slightly confused. “No elective classes are that way”.
“I know,” he said smiling with his perfect teeth. “I haven’t picked mine yet I’m going to the library.”
“Oh …well have fun reading,” I said. He smiled and walked away. I opened the door to the vocal room and thought about what I just said. ‘Have fun reading’ what was I thinking. I gave Mrs. Garner the pass when I arrived and scurried quietly to my seat.
The classes went on for forever. I couldn’t wait till trig. But maybe I’d see Jake at lunch. Maggie would probably force me to talk to him but I wasn’t going to let her succeed. I had a plan. I would go to lunch like usual and try to avoid trouble especially today (one time to the clinic in one day is bad enough). Anyway, I’d walk in and tell her I need to get my lunch first. And in the line I’d tell her I have some awesome secret to share with her and Andrew. We’d get to our lunch table I’d describe the whole thing with the excruciating details and make me and Jakes ten minute meeting last for eternity. Before I even got to set my stuff down Maggie was already to pounce on me.
“Hey you want to talk to Jake,” Maggie said, in a coaxing voice. I tried in vain to put my plan in to action “Let me get my lunch first,” I said walking toward the line. Maggie pulled me back. “What”? I said annoyed.” It’s already taken care of, now come on,” Maggie said pointing to our table and pulling me towards Jake’s.
“I have something thing I have to tell you,” I said urgently, than whispered “about Jake”. She immediately stopped pulling me to Jake’s table but to ours where Andrew was sitting waiting for me to kill him for letting Maggie do what she did. I told them what happened. Maggie freaked out. She told me it was a sign and we would get married some day. I just think it was a coincidence, though I hoped it was a sign. It was like physically impossible for the hottest guy in the school to like me, the klutz. Time for trig!
I strode as fast as could to trig. He was sitting there smiling at me as I came in, flawless as usual. Once we were assigned work I finished fast as always. Sadly I’ve been blessed with being smart. I never liked being smart because some people would call me a nerd but I just call my self unusually not dumb. I began to drawing a picture of Jake. About halfway through my picture Jake leaned over and wrote a note on my paper.
That’s really good
I didn’t have anytime to be embarrassed because a second later…Ding! I guess I need to go to my piano lesson. As I gathered my books I looked at Jake. “See ya tomorrow,” I said feeling a spark in confidence. “I’ll take you up on that,” He said with a little grin.5
“Sure,” I said totally lost. I had to run to the lesson today. I took piano lessons to improve my singing and just because I found it fun. I had to take them from the school vocal teacher because she’s a really good pianist and it’s a lot easier to already be at school.
“Sorry I’m late,” I said gasping for air.
“It’s all right because I have a new piece that I want you to start working on.” She handed me a new sheet of music.
“Ok,” I said as I looking down at the title. My heart will Go On. “I love this song, I used to know how to play it but it was so long ago.” I told her excited.
“Yeah we are going to be singing it in class and I would like you to do the solo” she told me with a strange sparkle in her eyes. She really wanted me to do it. I didn’t really want to sing it, I just kind of freak out in front of people.
“Yeah I guess,” I said wishing I hadn’t.
“Thank you Valerie if you want to you can stay later and practice here. I’ll be in my office if you have any questions.”
“Sure,” I said automatically. She said and she strolled gracefully toward her office. I looked at the music. I’m just started with the simple chords and melody. As I became involved in the music I started singing along. The music was coming back to me now; I started doing some harder chords. It sounded beautiful and I was taken away into my own little world. Then I heard someone else singing besides mine, it was a beautiful voice, indescribable, and hitting every note perfectly.. I didn’t stop playing, we sang in unison it was like we could feel the notes around us and that feeling is incredible, indescribable. It was just beautiful. The song ended.
I quickly turned around and what I saw completely amazed me. The person was…Jake. I couldn’t believe it.” Wow! Bravo,” Mrs. Garner exclaimed clapping, “Do you need any help young man”?” Jake smiled at me then at Mrs. garner. “Yes I am looking for Mrs. Garner,concerning my elective being vocal,” he said sounding completely polite.
“Well you defiantly welcome with that voice would you like a solo,” Mrs. Garner said.
“What song will I be singing,” he said with a smile.
“That one of course and Valerie don’t worry you will be doing the duet with him.”
“Sure I’ll do it,” he said with the perfect smile I love.
“Is their any time you two can get together to practice”.
“Well we kind of…live on the same street,” I chimed in.
“Well it’s settled then, can you guys try to practice at least once every week,” she said.
“Sure,” Jake and I said in unison.
“Well I guess I’ll see you two tomorrow in class,” Mrs. Garner said heading for the door. But Jake got there first and opened the door for me as he gestured me to the hallway.
“So when do think we should practice and where,” he said hiding a smile.
“I don’t know but definitely not at my house my sister will purposely make as much noise as she can and my mom will be listening to us and it can get annoying trust me,” I said truthfully the last time I sang in my room was like never since I found out that my mom was listening in.
“Do mind stopping at my house its quiet and no one will listen in on purpose maybe come around three and on Tuesdays you can come at four thirty and you can stay till whenever,” he said.
“Sure that will be great,” we were in the parking lot now approaching my car, “I can stop by my house and tell my mom and I’ll head over to your house,” I said hoping I just didn’t mess things up mentioning my mom but by his face I could tell he understood.
“I’ll take you over to my house. I’ll just wait in the driveway,” he said while burning his eyes into mine way to persuasive.
“Okay just follow me to my house,” I said scared to say anything else it’s just seems like its going to smooth something bad has got happen. I got in my car and was on my way the whole time dying to look in the mirror but too much of a coward I could never gain the confidence to look. Finally at my house and he was telling the truth when I got out of my car he was there.
“I’ll be back in a minute,” I yelled as he nodded. I walked up the concrete driveway hoping my mom will understand.
“Hey mom,” I said as I opened the door.
“Hey, how was your day,” she said as I put backpack down and grabbed a water bottle out of the fridge.
“Great, I got a duet with new kid and he’s a really good singer and turns out he lives on our street I was just wondering if I can go over there and practice,” I said crossing my fingers.
“My baby got a duet,” she screamed as she hugged me close than pulled me away so she could see my face, “You can as long as you perform here the night before your actual performance. What is the song?”
“Sure but I’ll be down there at three everyday except Tuesdays I’ll be there at four thirty and it will end at whenever time we finish. By the way the song is ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and I’ll be playing the piano along with singing love you bye,” I said as I ran out the door. I’ll find some way to not have to sing at my house. When I approached the car my hand lingered at the handle but I finally opened it and inside it was leather and he was listening to our duet song. He turned it down when I got in the car.
“Practicing, how did it go,” he said obviously knowing the answer, as he backed the car out of the driveway.
“Perfect my mom went crazy but I kind of promised for us both to sing at my house the night before our performance,” I said hoping it was okay as he laughed.
“That will be great,” he said as we entered his driveway.
“I was hoping so,” I said with a smile. This guy is so perfect he’s in vocal, hot, understanding, easy going, a great singer, and perfect. I practically was smiling the whole time I was getting out of the car clutching my sheet music.
“Where would you like to sing,” He said looking around, “I have a keyboard is in my room I can bring anywhere you want”.
“Anywhere you want,” I said not wanting to intrude.
“Do mind if we sing outside in the back by the big oak tree. I like singing there because it feels just natural,” he revealed.
“Sure,” I said hoping I didn’t have to climb it.
“Come on follow me,” he said as he walked into the house. His house looked the same as it did before but more beautiful with Jake there as it seemed like he enlightened the room. I was following behind him when we passed a black grand piano. I wonder why we aren’t getting that one.
“We are going to my room to get the keyboard,” he said with a smile as it seemed as he could read my mind.
“Hey Valerie glad to see you here again,” his mom said as we went up stairs.
“Glad to see you, too,” I said with a smile.
“Almost there,” he said as it looked like he was headed for the first door on the left. Then he opened the door.
I couldn’t believe what I saw. You would think a kid so bizarre would have a creepy room but apparently no. And I was braced for the worst like a Halloween nightmare but no. This was nothing like that. It looked formal yet in a teenager style. His walls were painted a light shade of green like the color of peace there wasn’t a thing that could explain the color it just felt so peaceful. And his bed had a comforter of a light blue that reminded me so much of his eyes. His desk was oak, I think, and it had some of his papers stacked neatly and some scattered across the top. With a computer sitting beside them and this copier I could only wish I could use without breaking it.
“Like it,” he said as he was unplugging the keyboard. My attention moved from the room and to him. He looked so perfect in here it didn’t make sense that he could be even more perfect than he already was. His eyes seemed to lighten in here. It was completely indescribable.
“The keyboard or your room,” I said with a smile as I was admiring him to save the picture in my brain.
“Both,” He said as he picked the keyboard up.
“Perfect,” I said as in my mind I was adding him in to.
“Great,” he said opening the door for me leading me to the back. When we reached the back door I noticed something. The back yard had not one patch of yellow grass and a couple days ago it was yellow. But I opened my mouth before I could stop myself.
“The grass it’s green and a couple of days ago,” I said only hoping he didn’t hear me even though I knew he did.
“What was it like a couple of days ago,” he questioned knowing what it was like when they first got there just wanting it out of me probably.
“Um…never mind,” I hope he wouldn’t go any farther on this subject but my worst fear happened.
“What was it like you didn’t answer my question,” He said eyeing me in a way no one could lie to his face.
“The grass was yellow and dry,” I said hypnotized.
“Well, fertilizer cleaned that up we don’t want our new neighbors thinking we are slobs,” he said simply. He didn’t go any farther on that subject.
“Oh,” I said trying to escape the trance as he opened the door. We walked to the tree in the lush green grass which I could admit it would be a good idea to clean up it was yellow and dry and definitely looks much better now. We got there and Jake set down the keyboard.
“Okay where do you want to start the harmonies in the beginning,” I asked.
“No, first let’s sing it through the more natural it is the better it will sound,” he said as matter-of-factly.
“Sure I’m going to play the into this time so you come in right here,” I said pointing at the music, as I sat down and put the keyboard on my lap and he reached over me and turned it on as his arm slightly brushed against my shoulder. We both looked at each other for a second surprised then went back to work getting everything together.
“‘K I got it,” he said as I began to play as the notes just came to me it sounded better than ever, but than we began to sing together and wow. I couldn’t do anything but smile. I looked up as he was looking down at me. We sounded great like our voices were made for each other.
“I’m not going to lie that sounded great,” I said as I still couldn’t comprehend what had just happened.
“I know but tonight I’ll work on some harmonies to match your notes and it’ll sound even better,” He said studying the music.
“I don’t know if it can,” I said as I took a sip from my water bottle. “So are we done for the day or do you want to run through it again?”
“I think we’re done all need to do is copy the music and I can work on the harmonies,” He said as I picked up the music and he picked up the keyboard. We walked back into the house without a word. We walked to the house and he broke the silence.
“Let’s just head up to my room I can copy the music and then I can take you home,” he said heading up the stairs with me not far behind.
“Okay, but you don’t have to take me home I can walk it’s really not that far,” I said worrying what my dad would say if he saw me coming home in a different car with a guy inside with me and that wouldn’t go so smooth.
“Well, if you want to we can walk instead,” he said opening the door for me.
“Sure,” I said knowing he wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
“Just set the music on the desk and I’ll get to it after I put the keyboard up,” he said as he walked across the room to the stand where the keyboard was on.
“Do you play… you know the piano,” I asked wondering why I hadn’t earlier.
“Um not much I just use it for vocals I could never play like you,” He said with a sparkle in his eyes as he plugged in the piano and headed for the copier.
“Oh,” I was searching for words, “Thank you.” I have never got a compliment like that before it made me feel good, important.
“Your welcome here’s you music and I’ll work on it tonight,” He said handing me the music, “Let’s go take a walk shall we?” He asked.
“Let’s,” I said hoping this wouldn’t end bad. Most of the way we didn’t talk but when we got to my door he said something.
“Goodnight,” He said as his perfect teeth shined brighter than ever even with the sun setting.
“’Night,” I said and turned around for the door.
“Today in the hallway I never thought you were a stupid girl that couldn’t walk straight just one with some bad luck but everybody gets bad luck right,” he said with a smile. And then he left I couldn’t ask him about what he just said but it sounded oddly familiar. I guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow.
I woke up at six over this bad dream that I had but it wasn’t important. I might as well get dressed and ready for school. I need to ask Jake what he meant by ‘I never thought you were a stupid girl that couldn’t walk straight’. I wonder what he did with the music that’s going to be interesting. I guess I’ll have to find out this afternoon. I guess I’m not hungry so I’ll just head off to school.
When I got to school I didn’t notice till I got out of the car that I was parked beside Jake. I had to blink twice to believe it what are the chances that you park by your crush with like five hundred other people that could be that spot. But I better get to class before I’m late.
I walked into class and there was a note on my desk. On the top it said TO: Valerie. It looked like Jake’s handwriting because I know it by heart I’ve been studying the texture and letters since he wrote on my drawing last time. I looked across the room to meet Jake’s eyes as he nodded his head for encouragement. I began to open the note which had been folded into a square. I finished opening it and it read:
Hey can you sit by me at lunch today. I want to show you what I have done so far to the music.
Jake
I looked over at Jake, let me note who was looking at me, and nodded my head and at the same time mouthed yeah.
At the end of class I caught up with Jake, in the hall way. With the swarm of people I thought it would be impossible for me to catch up with him but I did.
“Hey Jake.” I said still thinking about the crowded hallways.
“Hey Val, I can call you Val right?” he asked
“Umm…sure.” I said blushing.
“Okay so about sitting by me today?” He asked
“Yeah, I mean it’s a go, I can sit by you.” I can’t believe I just said that.
“’Kay I’ll walk you to vocal.” He said with a smile.
“Um…do you mind if Maggie and Andrew sit with us because they’ll hate me for blowing them off and they’ll be all alone at the table. I’ll feel really guilty to.” I said hopping it was okay with him.
“Sure.” He said as he opened the door for me.
“Thanks a lot.” I whispered back.
“Valerie get Jake a seat with the guys you can sit with the girls but right by Jake and help him catch up.” Mrs. Garner said while talking to other students and taking role.
“That was…confusing.” Jake said obviously not getting what she just said.
“It just takes a little while to learn her language.” I said with a laugh. I went to go get him a chair and put it in the back because of his height. And started telling him what we usually do in this room. I have a feeling Mrs. Garner told me to help him not one of the guys because all the guys are either to weird or don’t pay any attention and are falling and she is probably thinking of moving them to a different class.
Jake seemed to catch on fast. I explained the rules which I knew I didn’t need to. I know I only knew him for two days. But I felt like I knew him his whole life it was really weird but awesome at the same time. Mrs. Garner began to tell everybody about the new songs we were going to be singing. And when she got to my duet song she winked at me and Jake than began to explain that Jake and I were going to be singing the verses and everyone will chime in the chorus.
“Let’s practice that song one time to see what it sounds like would you two like to sing for us.” Mrs. Garner said looking straight at us while motioning us to the front. My throat went dry and I couldn’t think straight there was one thing I was afraid of it was singing in front of a bunch of people I know and could damage my rep which was already dangerously low. Singing on stage was okay because the lights block out all the people and half I don’t know plus the whole chorus is behind me and I don’t have to look at them. But this I can’t do.
“Um…we haven’t got all the harmonies done yet,” now I was sweating, “So maybe next time.”
“I’m sure it’ll sound great.” She said with a smile.
“I think we could do it we just won’t use the harmonies,” He said as the class kept turning there heads to see who is going to talk next.
“I need a drink of water,” I said as I ran out of the classroom to the water fountain in the hallway. Which I didn’t lie; I did need I drink of water. I heard the door open again. I turned to look and Jake was almost by my side with those caring blue eyes.
“Are you okay?” He said sounding very concerned.
“Do I look okay to you?” I said with a bit of sarcasm. I’m so stupid throwing remarks the guy I like.
“No, but what’s wrong with singing in front of the class. Do you really think anyone’s going to pay attention?” He said with the smile that makes my heart drop.
“No, but I don’t know.” I said looking at the ground, but knowing the real reason was because of this crush I’ve had since 9th grade on this guy named Eric. Well, lately my minds been on Jake but the crush is still there just not as big. It’s not like you pick who you like. Everyone knows the only reason he’s in that class is because of Jessica this girl that is super popular and has the voice of the ocean. He just won’t admit it he says that he enjoys singing. Sure, he may have a voice but it’s not like he’s using it for any good.
“Look at me if you can’t do this today then we won’t but your going to have to face it someday,” He said in such a caring way while he so gently lifted my head so I could look at him.
“Okay we won’t do it today but what are we going to do about telling Mrs. Garner.” I said trying to figure that one out.
“You’ll just have to take a trip to the nurse’s office.” He said with a smile.
“Huh,” I said but then I got it, “So how am I going to be sick?”
“You’re going to throw up, but will the nurse be on our side about you doing this to skip the duet?” He questioned.
“Yeah, I think so. She knows about my why don’t we call it stage fright,” I said with a smile.
“I’ll be right back,” He said walking towards the door.
“’K,” I said looking at him and wondering how can a guy be so perfect and caring. And in the back of my mind I was thinking he put his hand on my chin OMG! He came back with my stuff with his in one of his arms and in the other hand was two passes.
“Can you walk?” He said with a smile.
“I think I can but I don’t know you might want to keep your eyes open for me tripping on something,” I said with a laugh.
“I definitely will we don’t want you actually going to the nurses for the same thing two times in a row,” he said while chuckled. Wow I didn’t know how much his laugh would make my heart melt. I smiled than he began to speak again.
“If you have stage fright than why did you even agree to this duet?” He said curiously.
“Well, I don’t know. I mean this is one of my all time favorite song and well she looked so hopeful and I don’t know why I even agreed to it anyway, but I can’t get out of it now.” I said confusing myself with my own words; why did I agree to do this anyway.
“’K,” Jake said not going any further with this subject but obviously not buying. We walked in silence the rest of the way. He opened the door to office as we walked in the secretaries were staring at us with there beady eyes, seeing that we came in yesterday together and now were coming the next day. We walked to the clinic.
“What happed?” the nurse said worried.
“Nothing,” I said not knowing what to say. As she looked back confused then her gaze went to Jake standing behind me.
“She doesn’t want to sing the duet in front of the class,” he said answering her confused look.
Sorry I had to end here. I'll try to add more later.
